Nathalie Rey

Nathalie Rey ( Saint Germain en Laye, 1976) is a French artist based in Barcelona since 2006.
She had a long academic career in the field of Humanities, with a Ph.D. in architecture, a degree in Literature and in Fine Arts, before dedicating herself to artistic creation. Currently, she works with galleries in Barcelona, Madrid and London.
Her work, technically eclectic, has followed a kind of narrative thread for years, which oscillates between episodes of contemporary history and personal events. Thus a disturbing parallel is being generated between the dramas of Humanity and individual wounds.
At the same time, she adopts an anti-mercantile position, since she relates and expresses through an ironic pop aesthetic characterized by the artistic re-use of waste and materials of industrial origin, the attraction / repulsion that the human and ecological tragedies inherent in our society arouses in her.

I imagine that the search for meaning is a need shared by all human beings, especially by those for whom the circumstances of life have cleared space for reflection. My interest in art, both as an observer and a creator, is part of this search. For me, art revolves around two complementary approaches that consist, on the one hand, in developing a conscious and rational thought able to nourish as rich a discourse as possible, and on the other hand, in exploring the more random windings of intuition, desire, and personal experience...

For works of art to have meaning, there must be interaction: An isolated idea can neither be explained nor put in perspective. I believe that the great joy of the artist is to be able to add pieces to his puzzle, to match different interests and intuitions, and in this way, expand the limits of meaning. For me, art represents the possibility of forging links between different areas of knowledge, and this way, finding an order, a meaning.
